GWT - Google Web Toolkit

May 23rd, 2006 by Terry Apodaca

Google released their new Web Toolkit last week…giving all of us JAVA Developers access to their coolness (or at least most of it that’s not still closed behind the labs at the Google Campus). I’ve finally downloaded it and run through all the documentation. Seems pretty easy…Install the latest JDK, Download the toolkit, unpack the packaged toolkit, start using the toolkit. Well, that’s what the site’s Getting Started page says.

Google Art

So, getting started sounds easy…now you need to know how to set up, create a project…import this into your favorite IDE (Eclipse), and code away. They even give you a few samples (what they call the Kitchen Sink) to get started with and get use to before you start building your own apps.

There’s a lot more info on the site…so go check it out if you are interested in building great AJAX style web application using pure JAVA code that is compiled into valid JavaScript and HTML pages for final deployment.

House Update

May 17th, 2006 by Terry Apodaca

I just wanted to keep everyone updated on the progress. We did close on Friday, April 28th, 2006 like my previous (updated) post said. We closed that day and stayed the night in our new home that night (on a queen sized air mattress). Even though the house was pretty much move-in ready we wanted to give it our own little touch before we moved all the way in…so we painted the kitchen:

A couple of before and after shots:

And these are random shots while in the process of painting:

Alicia and me painting - this is the primer going on. David showed us his expertise in the art of painting walls.
Still painting and touching up. Kitchen as we were finishing up...still tarped.

The rest of these are just better shots of the house…since those early ones were taken by someone else and not very good, starting with the Green Bathroom:

The famous green bathroom - with fish! Green Bathroom again.

The Bedrooms:

Marla and I in our Bedroom Master Closet

Master Bathroom:

Living Room while David, Alicia, david and Kris came by to check out the house and our progress on the painting:

Sha sitting in the living room bored and ready to leave. Kris (David's girl) and Alicia checking out the house Still checking out the house.
Just a shot of the living room and fireplace. Another shot of the living room with the hallways into the rooms

That’s it for now…we’ll keep you posted as we do more stuff and eventually get EVERYTHING moved into the house.

Cheyanna and Her Butterfly

May 15th, 2006 by Terry Apodaca

Here’s the story of Cheyanna and her butterfly. A little background:

Cheyanna’s Grandparents live just around the corner from her elementary school so they pick her up every day at 3 since Marla and I are usually at work until 5 or later. Cheyanna LOVES to play with plants and animals…AND BUGS!!! So usually when we pick her up she’s either outside playing with bugs, animals, plants, leaves, anything she can get her hands on or she’s inside asleep (and let me tell you…she sure is a fart when she wakes up!!). So the other day we pull into the driveway and she’s outside. And here’s what followed…

*Note: these are better if you click the first image and use the tools that follow to sift through these.

Cheyanna found a butterfly
Cheyanna found a butterfly…

and that butterfly landed on her face
…and that butterfly landed on her face…

and she loved every minute of it!!!
…and she loved every minute of it!!!…

until we told her that it was going to pee on her.
…until we told her that it was going to pee on her.

So then she tried to see if we were telling the truth or not.
So then she tried to see if we were telling the truth or not.
