I know most are aware of Samsung, they’ve been around for years. But, they were no Sony…until now. Starting from a black and white TV back in 1970 to now where they create HDTVs, Cell Phones, Home Appliances, computer hard drives, home and car stereos…the list goes on and on. I can remember back when you talked about those things, if you wanted a stereo you should seriously consider Sony, Pioneer, etc… Then if you wanted home appliances you would look at whorl pool and those types. You would look for specific manufactures that specialized in what it was you were looking for.

To get to the point…I think Samsung as passed most other companies, and I question if they are even better than the Sony’s of the world. Here’s why (and this could be a good start to my 2009 wish list):

Samsung CL65:

Just reading the text on those images/camera will make any technical person all giddy. First of, it has built in GPS. That in itself is freaking bad ass for a camera. I don’t know how many times I have been on a hike, wanted to take a photo, and had to constantly switch gadgets here and there because my camera just did what a camera does, takes photos. So I would have to put away the GPS, which back the did what a gps does and only that.

Not to mention that it’s 12.2 mega pixels…it boasts 5x optical zoom, 720p (30fps) movie mode, an HDMI output, and a 3.5-inch touchscreen that utilizes a Smart Gesture user interface. Are you kidding me? HD? Granted it’s only 720p which isn’t full HD but still! On top of that it has Bluetooth so that you can simply share your photos with anyone that also has a Bluetooth enabled device.

To top this nice gadget off, it comes with WIFI. Yep, you can easily connect to a hot spot and instantly load photos to facebook, flickr, etc.

Now, I don’t know if it’s a full blown internet enabled device, I don’t know how well or robust the GPS is, and I do know that other cams have similar features…but this one sounds and looks much better than the Sony version. I think the only thing this gadget doesn’t have that I would like is a phone. Hey Apple, when are you going to build an iPhone that does all this…and does it this well???

Well, I couldn’t wait to save up for another Plazma which could run upwards of $2k+ for the one I really want. I had $500 saved up so far, but going for several months without a Big Screen in the living room was making all of us go crazy! I seriously think our eye got worse just by squinting at the little 19 inch we had in there (not a very good replacement for a 42 inch Plasma).

Anyway…I found a really good deal on a used Projection TV. I went to take a look at it and it’s very clean, hardly used, and it’s 55 inch Widescreen. It’s also HD ready which means i can hook up the good ole rabbit ears and get HD local channels (until I re-upgrade our satellite subscription). Here are a couple photos:

No, that’s not me in the reflection. I am not going bald yet (Randy). Eric, the guy that sold it to me, took these for me before I even considered making the drive to see it. I’ll get some better photos that will give this TV the justice it needs, in our living room.
